leather: a spring must-have

September 9, 2008  8:42 am

Costello Tagliapietra’s show on Sunday was an atypically accessory-driven affair: Inspired by The Night Porter, a film Robert Tagliapietra cheerfully calls “super-sick,” the design duo had roughed up their soigné clothes with all manner of leather goods. Leather suspenders, leather watchman’s caps, leather belts. The covetable leather and brass cuffs came courtesy of Philip Crangi, but where had Costello and Tagliapietra sourced the rest of the dungeon-ready stuff? “Leather daddy shops,” admitted Jeffrey Costello. “Where else?” In other words, girls trying to replicate the Costello Tagliapietra look for Spring need only venture to, say, The Leather Man. (And in case anyone fears getting spotted by a passing acquaintance while making that trip, bear in mind that The Leather Man is right across Christopher Street from the new Rag & Bone shop, so you can always pretend to be lost or confused.) Crangi, for his part, was unabashedly heading that way right after the Costello Tagliapietra show. “I need to look for something to wear to Oak’s bondage party,” he explained. “So that’s my afternoon.”
