milan’s great escapes: Piedmont

Milan is one of the world’s best transit towns, a fact that more than makes up for its never-ending traffic and the smog that blankets the city. Style.com offers mini-itineraries of interesting places to visit that are close enough to the city to be accessible but far enough away to give you a break.
Piedmont
It’s hard to get excited about the start of winter, but the Milanese do because it heralds the beginning of truffle season. Some of the best anywhere can be found in the Piedmont region, about an hour away from the city, where the season is just getting underway and will last through the end of November. Food comes third—after football and family—on an Italian’s list of favorite things, so joining the exodus to this misty, hilly region is a good way to go local (for an overnight stay, try Relais San Maurizio). The Piedmont is also dotted with thermal baths that are perfect for a winter dip, such as the Acqui Termi. The region is also blanketed in vineyards, whose cantine (cellars) are often open for wine tasting.

I have had never any other illusion than “that fashion follows the money”.
By Appollonia on 09/26/08 at 4:06 pmI like to ad China too the list. Losts of big houses -as of course is well known here I assume- has opened yet flagstores in China or are in negotiation to do so.
That’s odd my former comment on Dana Thomas ended up here….????
Anyway, once we’ve rented a house in the Piedmont area in early Summer and I can recommend it to everyone. The joy of nature mixed with the fabulous city life of Milan is really a must!
