Designer update

my spring look, courtesy of willow

September 12, 2008  11:25 pm

I stopped by Willow’s presentation at the Altman Building on Thursday, along with a throng of non-fashion types drawn in by the thumping bass and artfully styled models arranged in a tableau vivant. “Expressive,” “drippy,” and “animalistic” were the catchphrases designer Kit Willow used to describe her Spring collection, inspired by the Ballets Russes. “I work mostly with draping,” she said of the cascading silk pants and dresses that anchored the collection. A tiger print was used throughout, to stunning effect in a sleeveless vest with itty-bitty Japanese bugle beads—”the tiniest beads in existence”—from a digital print of an African rug she has in her Sydney home. I think the above look is perfect, exactly the kind of unique, sophisticated, and yet comfortable ensemble I will want to wear come spring (or right now, actually).
