Morgans hotel has undergone a little face-lift. The original boutique hotel on Madison at 36th Street called on its original interior designer, the indefatigable Andrée Putman, to redesign her own designs. On Tuesday night, Vogue editor at large André Leon Tally fêted friend Jennifer Hudson there for the launch of her new album. Last night, the redesign team from Paris welcomed fashion week guests Peter Som and others to check out the revamped midtown hotel. Som, who was accompanied by curator Christine Kim, said his show this season was inspired by Lawrence of Arabia and the Sahara Desert. “I kind of wanted to go escapist and optimistic,” he said. “I think we need that in the times that we’re in.” Putman, 84, was stricken with flu and laid up in bed in Paris, but her two children, Olivia and Cyril, both members of the design team, were present. “I like very much this place,” said Cyril, a former art gallery owner who was one of the first to deal Basquiat and Haring, back in the eighties. “It reminds me of so many souvenirs of 20 years ago, when there were amazing parties here with, uh, uh”—he turned to his sister for help in remembering a name—”Tina! Tina Turner! I have her rhythm in my blood.”
