where does posh shop when she’s in london? oxfam

September 14, 2008  6:27 pm

“It’s not just hair shirts and Jesus sandals anymore,” says Sarah Farquhar, head of retail operations at Oxfam, about the charity shop’s makeover from fusty to fabulous (even Posh says she stops in when she’s in town). After a massive overhaul by Jane Shepardson, who previously made Topshop cool, the charity retail chain has opened two new branches in the London neighborhoods of Notting Hill and Chiswick dedicated to its “Loved for Longer” range, i.e., previously worn, ultra high-end clothes. Recent donations include the purple Vera Wang dress Keira Knightley wore to the Oscars, Gwyneth Paltrow’s loafers from the Tod’s campaign, and a series of frocks from Dame Helen Mirren’s wardrobe. And, for the start of the city’s fashion week, designers such as Christopher Kane and Giles Deacon have “refitted” donated pieces, which will be on display at the two shops. But there’s more: The charity knows it’s up against eBay for the choicest cast-offs, so it’s making it even easier for people to donate their gently used Balenciagas and McQueens: Starting today, chic little black-and-white Tuk-Tuks will be making house calls in West London to pick up donations.
