antony’s jellyfish couture

-------

Lou Reed, Michael Stipe, and a bevy of art kids in thick-framed glasses and skinny jeans traded last night’s presidential debate for the P.S.1-hosted Antony and the Johnsons’ EP release party. It all went down at The Clocktower in Tribeca—the headquarters of P.S.1′s Art Radio station—with some tough security out front. “I really wanted to come tonight because I’m a fan of Antony and P.S.1 and I’d never been to The Clocktower. Also, I like going to parties where you have to walk through a metal detector!” joked Cecilia Dean. Luckily, her spiky Rodarte for Christian Louboutin heels with metal cat claws made it through. Guests admired projections of flowers on the walls until the performance, during which the band walked up a winding spiral staircase to the second floor as guests followed behind. “I was nervous about it, but it was OK,” Antony said afterward. A big fashion fan, the androgynous singer donned part of a three-layer gown he will wear at the Apollo on October 16. “This is sort of the underlayer,” he clarified. “The whole thing looks like this luminous jellyfish. It’s really beautiful.”
