blasblog from paris: the backstage brouhaha for riccardo tisci

October 3, 2008  1:51 am

If one were to measure the success of a fashion show by the number of people who crush into the backstage area after it’s over—which, in my opinion, anyway, is a fairly accurate barometer—it’s a safe bet that Riccardo Tisci’s show for Givenchy was the hottest ticket yet this week. After all, the likes of Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Margherita Missoni, and Vanessa Traina don’t normally wait in long, pushy queues. Once backstage, the crowd of well-wishers and merrymakers continued. Restoin-Roitfeld went hunting for the black patent leather Mickey Mouse-esque headbands that had just debuted on the runway; Mariacarla Boscono, a friend of Tisci’s for years, chatted with her parents until the designer finished attending to his merrymakers; and Natalia Vodianova passed around pictures of her three kids—she told me she hasn’t decided if she’s having any more—while she had her extensions removed. In another indication of Tisci’s sway with fashion folk, the models weren’t eager to leave at all, and were even willing to chat to journalists about their love of the collection. “I came here just for this show,” Frankie Rayder said, adding that she hadn’t done a show in four years and so had the occasional nervous attack on her way to Paris. “I was going to go home tomorrow, but Riccardo told me he’s doing a party. Which I guess I have to stay for. He’s amazing.”
