designers look inward (literally) for spring
October 29, 2008 9:22 am
Need a dose of the macabre in time for Halloween? Look no further than the runways (click for slideshow), where designers took inspiration from the body—bones, musculature, and even the epidermis were fodder for many a Spring frock. Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy based their spliced-and-shredded designs on exoskeletons, while Alexander McQueen’s allover prints evoked X-ray images replete with sutures. Ohne Titel’s Alexa Adams and Flora Gill were influenced by sculptor Naum Gabo’s abstract kinetic body sculptures. “Skeletons harken to the body’s natural structure,” Adams said. “It gives clothes a clarity that feels important in this climate.” Not to be outdone, Christian Lacroix accessorized with oversize necklaces that looked like rib cages. The runway model’s bones are practically visible themselves, I dont think fake bones are needed. However, I do love A. McQueen.
By doczhivago on 10/29/08 at 8:01 pmI LOVE this! Now I don’t have to eat like a rabbit to get that boney look!

By rere6m on 10/30/08 at 8:03 amWhat a absolute Distasteful, Classless, Mockery of fashion
I think this is neither distasteful or ridiculous.
By archipelago on 10/30/08 at 9:27 amSome of the designs are gorgeous.
They will not always be worn by thin models, that is for presenting the pieces. They will be worn by whoever buys them.
cool especially this dress from Rodarte
By coxy on 10/30/08 at 11:48 amThe skeletal theme really stood out in numerous collections. McQ’s Alien like prints were spooky but spectacular!
By haircut100 on 10/30/08 at 12:58 pmSaw a similar leather rib cage one like rodarte long ago at http://www.silenceisgolden.com.au/Thewoman/SIG_SS08hr%20(14).jpg back in their April Australian Fashion Week show

By sftrendgirl on 10/30/08 at 4:08 pmLoving the Christian Lacroix’s exoskeleton necklaces that the models are sporting down his runway. I won’t be surprised if those necklaces in particular will become a “hot” accessory, next season.
