dvf unleashes her inner wonder woman

October 15, 2008  3:05 pm

“I always loved Wonder Woman—way before I knew her name was Diane,” said Diane von Furstenberg at the in-store launch of her new Wonder Woman-inspired Holiday collection and original DC Comics book. The RTW included dresses with stars splashed across the front and wrap dresses with kaleidoscope prints, while the more literal Wonder Woman T-shirts and leather totes (made in conjunction with Warner Bros.) will have their proceeds go to Vital Voices—a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women worldwide. “My daughter doesn’t know Wonder Woman like I do,” said Rachel Roy, while flipping through the comic charting the fictional adventures of Diva, Viva, and Fifa alongside essays by Lynda Carter and Gloria Steinem. “She’s eight and she really likes Shrek, High School Musical, and Miley Cyrus. I don’t know if she has what I had in terms of a superhero. I guess she has Mom.” Chiara Clemente, on the other hand, sees Wonder Woman rebirthed time and time again. “I just spent two years of my life following five extraordinary artists in my new film. I think they all show Wonder Woman sides. You can just see their strength,” she says, before pointing out the obvious superheroine in the room. “Of course, Diane is the present-day Wonder Woman!”
