keeping it local at seoul fashion week

Many of the models walking the shows at the mainstream “Seoul Collection, Discover Korean Power” SETEC venue during Seoul fashion week didn’t do any favors for the clothes. There seemed to be little reason why they’d been chosen, apart from one common trait—more than half were Caucasian. “Designers think European models are more professional or make them look more like they should be designing for the Paris runways,” explained one Korean model, who was cast alongside a bunch of European and American girls. In striking contrast, the shows at the “Generation Next” Daily Projects space, which offered a superior lineup of invigorating avant-garde local and international talent, were almost entirely Korean. Is there a better way for these designers to pronounce their self-confident faith in Seoul’s potential as a hotbed for internationally attractive talent?
