los angeles fashion week: gregory parkinson’s seasonless style

October 17, 2008  9:26 am

When it comes to showing your craft on the West Coast, take it from someone who has called L.A. home for the better part of a decade. “Gallery events and openings are a big part of the social scene here,” explains Gregory Parkinson, whose Spring 2009 presentation will take place at Honor Fraser Gallery this weekend. “I wanted a clean space that was centrally located, filled with natural California light, and that had a slightly industrial feel.” Not that his 30-piece collection echoes anything even remotely industrial. Instead, the native of Northern England hints that guests attending his Saturday night unveiling can expect beach-inspired print and color combinations teamed with layered volume and sheer detailing. Long considered something of an ambassador of nonseasonal dressing, Parkinson adds, “There’s so much product available these days that unless we can offer something original that has a shelf life of longer than two months, then why bother?”
