save the children? save the whales? rosario dawson wants you to decide

October 29, 2008  1:01 pm

With the election right around the corner, all conversations these days seem to revolve around voting. Capitalizing on this ballot-casting fever, the ad wizards at TripAdvisor, the online travel resource, are bringing the hallmark of democracy to the nonprofit sector. With “actrivist” Rosario Dawson as its spokesperson (Dawson’s advocacy credits include co-founding Voto Latino, and her role as Ruby in ’90s tearjerker Kids—surely instrumental in promoting safe sex), TripAdvisor has launched More Than Footprints, an online-voting philanthropic initiative. More Than Footprints is donating $1 million to five travel-related nonprofits—Conservation International, Doctors Without Borders, the National Geographic Society, the Nature Conservancy, and Save the Children—and will divvy up the money based on the number of online votes each receives. Voting ends November 9. For more information, see www.tripadvisor.com/Causes.

  1. You can’t choose , they are all part of the world that belongs here. Without animals , humans would not survive for very long. So choose both, support both.

  2. Agreed with McCarthy. Both are equally important; asking one to choose is like saying “hey, would you like to be killed by a knife or a gun in your choice of lodging today?” So yes; support both.
