what do pigeons at the ritz wear? a uniform by radunsky

October 6, 2008  4:35 pm

After illustrating more than 30 children’s books (including Discovery, by Nobel Prize winner Joseph Brodsky), Vladimir Radunsky decided to turn to the three-dimensional form for his Crossed-Dressed show at Milan’s Nina Lumer gallery. But despite the change in medium, the Russian artist has remained loyal to his world of fantasy and fable. The exhibit consists of a series of lifesize, tailor-made clothes for characters that could easily have stepped from the pages of one of his books. There are swimming trunks for a baby hippo, slippers for Babar the elephant, a horse’s riding breeches, an anaconda’s wedding dress (complete with veil), and, from the Ritz in Paris, a pigeon’s uniform.
