Blasblog: La Perla Girls Bring Sexy Back

November 13, 2008  4:08 pm

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of La Perla is sexy bras. And panties. And those silky little slip camisole things that always make me wonder when a girl would wear them, apart from dirty movies and Halloween. (Tell me sweatpants and an old T-shirt aren’t more comfortable and I’ll call you liar.) But as many of us were reminded of last night, La Perla does fashion, too. In fact, their ready-to-wear collection is designed by none other than Alessandro Dell’Acqua. “It’s good stuff,” said Jessica Joffe, on her way up to the Met’s Apollo Circle benefit from the second floor of La Perla’s Madison Avenue store, where Olivia Chantecaille and Fabiola Beracasa were getting their shop on. (Sales went to benefit Gilda’s Club here in New York.) And then there was Genevieve Jones, the club kid-turned-socialite-turned- jewelry-and- handbag-designer, who—to my surprise—proved as much as fashion historian as consumer. “I can remember when lingerie and innerwear first started becoming outerwear,” she said, describing those Versace days when Kate Moss would work the red carpet in little more than some satin and lace. “What a chic fashion moment,” mused Jones. “How sexy! I want that to come back.” Well, knowing there’s no time like the present, the girl about town put her money where her mouth is and picked up a few saucy, satin pieces.
