Despite Change In Air, Cole Still Loves Puns

November 13, 2008  6:33 pm

Twenty-five years in business has done little to stymie Kenneth Cole’s penchant for puns. Last night’s Silver Anniversary celebration was no exception. “As we’ve always said, to be aware is even more important than what you wear,” the designer opined at the launch of Awearness: Inspiring Stories About How to Make a Difference. “I think everyone wants to make a change,” Cole added of his potential audience. “They just don’t know how—that’s what this book does.” A who’s who of the civic-minded, the 86-story compendium features essays from the likes of Sir Elton John, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and actress/activist Jane Fonda. On hand to celebrate: Lauren Bush, who contributed a piece on world hunger, and Diane von Furstenberg, sporting an Obama pin on her lapel. Turns out most people still had the election on their minds. Co-host (and Obama canvasser) Rosario Dawson was visibly elated. “At least there’s a feeling right now that some things can change,” the actress said. “I don’t think that people have felt like that in a long time. We have an opportunity to do something right now, and that’s huge.”
