Matthew Rolston Doesn’t Play Favorites

“Nobody captures beauty like Matthew Rolston,” cooed Christina Aguilera, earlier this week, in Beverly Hills as she toasted the launch of the photographer’s new book, beautyLIGHT. Guests including Rose McGowan and Cameron Silver agreed, along with gallerist David Fahey and Martha Stewart (who proved to be quite the shutterbug herself whilst capturing the ambience of the Louis XIII Black Pearl Rémy Martin cocktail reception with her very own Canon G9 camera). “Don’t ask me to name a favorite,” begged Rolston, when we asked for his preference of the book’s selection of 400-plus images, spanning 20 years’ worth of celebrity portraiture. “They’re all my babies!” declared the native Angeleno. That would include cover star Salma Hayek (”Oh, she’s fantastic, and a real feminist, you know!”) and Prince (”This image of him is the oldest of them all”). Breaking records when it came to timelines, however, was the post-dessert vintage Rémy Martin tasting. The drink was also apparently bank-breaking. Stated Silver, “I’m serious, this is three thousand dollars’ worth of cognac in my glass!”
