Multiple Viktors, Rolfs At Dutch Fashion Awards

An abundance of new designers may be coming through the ranks in Holland, but when it comes to their homeland, Viktor & Rolf still reign supreme. Exhibit A: The duo’s uniform of eccentric tie, slim-cut suit (sometimes three-piece) and heavy-duty specs was the outfit of choice for more than a dozen men present at the Dutch Fashion Awards in Amsterdam on Friday night.
“There are definitely a lot of Viktors and Rolfs here this evening”, giggled twin-designers Truus and Riet Spijkers of Dutch label, Spijkers en Spijkers, in unison. “At least they dressed up, though,” continued Truus, between quaffs of Champagne. “The Dutch are notoriously casual! I wouldn’t be surprised if some guests tried to wear jeans, even though the event is black-tie.”
Those in denim, however, would have been stopped at the door, at least so said organizer Mark Terberg at a Champagne breakfast held in honor of Monique Van Heist, the winner of the New Designer Award which comes with 25,000 Euros. “We did have a lot of people asking beforehand, if they could,” said Terberg with a smile. “It is a problem.” That could explain why the major prize went to Van Heist. In her collection (pictured here), which is best described as “Alice Dellal goes shopping at Margiela,” there was not a pair of jeans in sight.
