Naomi Campbell Turns Designer For 284
November 7, 2008 2:54 pm
It’s no wonder that people here at Claro Rio are buzzing about 284. The label is the brainchild of Daslu owner Eliana Tranchesi’s daughters Luciana and Marcella and Daslu director Donata Meirelles’ daughter Helena. The trio launched their first collection yesterday at a club after 11:00 p.m. (That’s still early for Brazilian clubbers, FYI.) As Alice Dellal opened the show wearing an “Obama Rocks” T-shirt, the crowd went crazy, many jumping to their feet. The look could best be described as everything a fashion-crazed teenager would dream of: message tees, tons of ultra miniskirts, terrific denim, and bright neon pieces. The best part? 284 has fast-fashion prices: skirts for around $50.00 and tees for less than $20.00. Even more exciting: Naomi Campbell will be designing a special collection for them sometime in the near future. And clearly, the Tranchesis and Meirelles have fashion retailing in their blood. They’ll open their first store in São Paulo before the end of year—and plan to eventually expand all over Brazil and the world.

By brummelchen on 11/9/08 at 5:32 pmthe hemlines are always political, during war the hemlines are up, during peace the hemline falls. I wonder if the short hemlines are there to encourage our boys to come home?
