Wu Goes West

Jason Wu is on a roll. Just this year, he won Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award and made it to the top ten in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. Then last night, MySpace Fashion and Lucy Liu hosted a trunk show and sneak preview of his Spring 2009 collection at Satine in Los Angeles. “My favorite look is the citron embroidered dot dress,” said Liu, clad in an ivory organza Wu frock with French knots and Swarovski crystal bursts. An enviable coterie of fans like January Jones, China Chow (pictured here with the designer), Rachel Zoe, Amanda Goldberg, Cameron Silver, and Kate Mara all showed up to support the designer, who himself was snappily turned out for the occasion in a high-low mix of Jil Sander and Topshop. “This year has been surreal,” said Wu, whose very first visit to Los Angeles was April of this year. “It’s so beautiful and sunny, I’ve thought about moving here, but the only drawback is I don’t know how to drive, which is a bit of a problem.” Satine will be the only Los Angeles boutique to stock Wu’s collection, and come fall there will be some exclusive designs for the store. “It is beyond an honor,” gushed co-owner Jeannie Lee, in a Jason Wu top and a pair of shoes straight off the runway. “They’re a little too big, but who cares!”
