A Gravure Matter

Breaking news for all mag addicts: Issue #3 of the semiannual Gravure is out this week. The crowning glory is a 28-page editorial shot by Jenny Gage and Tom Betterton that expounds on the theme of the issue: Nesting + Instinct. The fashion story features models Tiuu, Patricia Schmid, and Sydonie, in various stages of undress, lounging on location in several Victorian brownstones in Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill, the same neighborhood where the photographic duo lives. “The title is meant to indicate the coziness and comfort of lazing around the house,” says co-founder Lisa Mosko. “There’s something very instinctual about being comfortable in one’s own skin (nude). And, with our economy on such shaky ground, we felt that a super-styled, luxe fashion story in an elaborate set wasn’t quite right. I think there is a collective shift happening right now, to save, stay home, and tap into our ‘nesting instinct.’ ” The issue also features interviews with Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy and Kai Kühne, who reveals that despite having fans like Chloë Sevigny and Tilda Swinton, he finds inspiration in his dog Powder. There’s also a bonus poster: an awesomely trippy illustration by Deanne Cheuk of Maggie Rizer in Stevie Nicks mode.
