Blasblog From Miami: Tory Burch’s Secret Street Cred

I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m a sucker for polished blonde girls with fancy pads and fashionable closets. So it shouldn’t come as any surprise that I’m a fan of Tory Burch, the forever decked-out little lady with a million-dollar fashion company, and, as of this year, a CFDA Award. But on Friday night, I saw a whole new side to Tory. Suddenly, the pint-size fashionista I was so used to seeing with Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer and Lauren duPont was working more hip-hop street cred than a Kanye West concert in Compton. At the Fontainebleau hotel, where she hosted a dinner and concert with Estelle, the following is a list of just some of the attendants: Beyoncé, Russell Simmons, Lenny Kravitz, Jay-Z, Marc Jacobs, Ingrid Casares, Naomi Campbell. Add to that list a few of the expected art folk (Stefano Tonchi, Simon de Pury, and Francesco Vezzoli) and Burch social buddies (Samantha Gregory, Katie Lee Joel, and Fabiola Beracasa), and we’re dealing with a guest list of epic proportions. Who knew? At one point during Estelle’s set she asked Burch to leave her backstage table and join her near the mike for a boogie, dragging the turquoise dress-clad queen of the Manhattan social circuit up for a convincing shimmy in front of a crowd of thousands. Afterward, I couldn’t help but tell Tory I was impressed with her newfound Miami street cred. “Don’t be surprised,” she winked, tucking those honey blond locks behind her ear. “There’s a little bit of street in me yet.”
