Blasblog: Visionaire Pops Up, Bubbles Over

December 9, 2008  6:03 pm

Theory: Visionaire might just have the best parties in fashiondom. Exhibit A: Last night was perhaps one of the best fêtes yet: a celebration of the über-mag’s collaboration with Krug on its 55th edition. (This time it’s a series of pop-up books designed by the likes of Steven Klein and Steven Meisel.) The Champagne powerhouse took over Tom Sachs’ Soho studio, stocking it full of Champagne and caviar. (Editor’s note: That’s the kind of home invasion we’d fully welcome.) The party drew Diane von Furstenberg, Margherita Missoni, Vito Schnabel, Stavros Niarchos, and Luke Grimes, but what kept them was a surprise performance by the Harlem Gospel Choir, who barreled into the studio singing Beyoncé’s “Put a Ring on It.” Mario Testino, front and center with Visionaire’s Stephen Gan, shouted for a “dance-off” at one point, with Tiana, the lead singer of that particular tune. With the champers running like water, there was one potential danger: the millions of dollars of artwork lining the walls. “I’m so nervous I’m going to touch something I’m not supposed to,” sighed Lily Donaldson, who came with her boyfriend, Vladimir Roitfeld. “Like over there it says ashtray. But is it really? Am I going to burn down a million-dollar piece of art?” She didn’t, but only because Natalia Vodianova showed up and sequestered her crew to a corner. “I’m only here for one night,” she said. “So I have to catch up with everyone right now.”
