Let The Red Carpet Games Begin

December 11, 2008  11:21 am

This morning officially marked the beginning of awards season with the announcement of the Golden Globe nominations at the crack of dawn in Beverly Hills. Though we do love film, for us, this mostly means the start of obsessing over who will wear what on the red carpet, and even to other attendant awards show events. So who is going to have their stylist working overtime? First there’s Kate Winslet, who currently looks better than ever (note to Vanity Fair: Yes, she is Deneuve-ly), with two nominations—a Best Actress nod for Revolutionary Road and one for Supporting Actress in The Reader. Speaking of Kate, or rather Cate, we’ll be counting on one Ms. Blanchett, (pictured here in Alexander McQueen) who co-stars in Best Motion Picture (Drama) nom The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, for some provocatively chic choices—and we’re hoping the same for Angelina Jolie, who lately has been wearing Atelier Versace and L’Wren Scott. Though Clint Eastwood’s The Changeling missed out on major noms, Angie will still be on Brad Pitt’s proud arm for his Benjamin Button nods. We’ll also be watching perennial Chanel Couture wearer Penélope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson, who’ll be working the circuit for Vicky Cristina Barcelona, nominated for Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical). And let’s not forget that the Globes is the sole instance when the film industry mixes it up with television. But the small screen could have some big fashion moments, particularly for smoking hot Tina Fey and Mad Men’s January Jones. You can see the full list of nominees here. Who do you think will have the best red-carpet style this time around?

  1. I don’t ever want to see Kate Winslet in another Herve Leger dress again. That was not a good choice at all. She has all the samples available in the world to her why would her stylist EVER bring that choice to a fitting. NO NO NO!!! Also lets see her in more chic up do hair looks.
