Alexander Wang: Another One For The Boys

January 27, 2009  10:42 am

Alexander Wang is joining the ever growing crew (Matthew Williamson, Roland Mouret, Gareth Pugh, and Christophe Decarnin) of womenswear designers crossing gender lines. The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner plans to launch a collection just for the boys later this year with Spring 2010. As Wang explained, his women’s look has often had a definitive tomboyish slant. “It’s strange that so many designers are doing men’s now, but for us it’s a component that’s always been there,” said Wang, adding that men’s stores bought his line when he was merely a knit-designing babe. “The idea has always been there, I’m just expanding it.” That’s particularly true for Wang’s newly extensive accessories line, which includes clean-lined bags that guys just might nick from their girlfriends. If you can’t wait months to see Alexander Wang Men’s, try to catch the designer out and about downtown. He tells us he can’t resist giving those early samples a test drive.
