Gryphon’s Inside Story

January 7, 2009  10:14 am

Designer Aimee Cho started her collection two years ago with a brilliantly simple idea: the trenchcoat. Since then, Cho, a Vogue alum, has gradually developed that basic notion beyond the beloved classic into other types of toppers, and now she’s going one step further. For Spring 2009, Cho is branching out with a small collection that incorporates vintage-inspired patterns, floaty silks, and mermaid sequins into seriously stylish little skirts, easy tops, and day-to-night dresses. The girlier aspects of Cho’s clothing is balanced nicely by the tough belts and strong layering pieces, like a standout fringed leather waistcoat or a slim beaded vest. And of course, it all looks great under a Gryphon trench or motorcycle jacket. Frocks like the decadent yet sleek sequined dress, $595, (pictured here) retail under a designer price point and like the rest of Cho’s wares, are timeless enough to look fabulous for more than a few seasons. Look for it at Bergdorf Goodman, Intermix, and Shopbop.com, where it will be available next week.
