How To Wear The Nina Ricci High-Low Dress

January 30, 2009  6:15 pm

We are fashion people and therefore adore most of what Olivier Theyskens has, does, and will design—rumors of replacements be damned. But even we have to admit that the beautiful high-low hem dresses from his Spring 2009 show have played somewhat awkwardly off the runway. Witness, Kate Bosworth at the Art of Elysium Gala a few weeks ago. Maybe it’s the tightly scraped-back hair or the witchy-goth choice of black with long sleeves. Whatever the case, Kate’s look wasn’t quite doing it for us. That’s why we were overjoyed to see Diane Kruger rock the Ricci at last night’s Sidaction party looking happy, pretty, and irrefutably chic. We put it down to the fresh but not too sweet floral and the girlish but not too infantile bobby-pinned hair. Agreed or not?

  1. I love Nina Ricci. So sexy and feminine. If I had my way, I’d have a closet full of her gowns!

  2. Honestly, Kates very gothic style takes me back to early Theyskens pre-Rochas & pre-fashion fame, the look is pure Theyskens and it works. Kates snatched tresses actually creates an air of androgyny that channels a club gothic origin, look again. Diane Kruger went for more of a mainstrean fashionista approach in her Ricci interpetation & it also works, for her. Love Diane but her look is a very typical fashion editors approach. You have to love extremes !!!

  3. Rumors of replacement? Olivier Theyskens is the best thing that has happened to Nina Ricci - and dare I say it? - Fashion in general. I love both of these looks, and I love everything Olivier creates.
