Michelle Watch: Another Maria In The Obama Closet
And the information keeps rolling in from what we’d now like to start calling the Best Inauguration Ever—especially for fashion wonks like us. It seems that Michelle Obama has another Maria in her life in addition to her longtime go-to Pinto: Maria Cornejo. Mrs. Obama has apparently been wearing pieces from Cornejo’s avant-elegant line for some time on the campaign trail and to wisecrack with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. On Saturday, she wore a royal purple jacket in double-faced wool jersey (pictured here) custom made by Cornejo for the whistle stop train ride from Philadelphia to Washington but that’s not likely to be last we’ll see of Michelle in Zero. A spokesperson for the designer tells us that Cornejo has designed a whole range of pieces “specifically tailored” for Mrs. Obama: eight jewel-toned suits, two winter coats and three dresses.
