Altuzarra’s Glam Fans

February 17, 2009  5:58 pm

“This season, I wanted to create a collection with more feeling in it,” explained Joseph Altuzarra at his presentation on Monday evening. “I was hoping that these would be clothes people could connect to emotionally as well as aesthetically.” Mission accomplished: Altuzarra sent his Fall ‘09 looks down the runway several times, and each finale drew a round of whoops and loud applause from the cheek-by-jowl crowd gathered to see the buzzed-about newcomer’s sophomore collection. Lauren Santo Domingo left the presentation with a big grin on her face, and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, who has already made a habit of wearing Altuzarra on the red carpet, was up front for the second go-round of exits, conscientiously snapping photos of every look (and making sure to get takes of Altuzarra’s Gianvito Rossi-produced shoes.) Which is to say that Altuzarra, with his curve-seamed spin on body-con and silver one-shouldered cocktail looks, will soon be seeing public confirmation that he attained his other design objective this season. “Glamour,” he said, laying it out straight and looking a little nonplussed by the well wishers swarming from every side. “I just kept telling myself, make it glamorous. I think that came through.”
