Azrouël’s Shoes

It’s the accessories that get you every time. Just as you manage to convince yourself that owning a pair of Fall ’09’s instantly ubiquitous leather leggings is not, in fact, a necessity for continuing to function on earth, along comes Yigal Azrouël and his [bleep]ing shoes. The clog-style pumps and boots produced for Azrouël by Walter Steiger look, appealingly, as though they were made in a foundry; they also look like the perfect thing to wear with leather leggings. (Also shown to perfection at Azrouël show at the tents yesterday morning. Sigh.) Stupid recession! Quit it already! Anyway, according to the designer, the shoes will initially be sold only through his stores in the Meatpacking District and the Hamptons. “We want to keep the shoes exclusive,” Azrouël explained. Eager-beaver shoppers may have an easier time buying up the Pamela Love jewelry worn by the models at Azrouël’s show—and the pieces, taken from Love’s Fall collection, are a little more wallet-friendly than usual. “I’ve been so inspired by African and Native American jewelry,” said Love, “and that’s lucky because it allows me to incorporate materials like leather and bone that are less pricey than metal, rather than downgrade the quality of the metal that I use.” Love went on to note that she and Azrouël are currently collaborating on a T-shirt; details are still being worked out, but apparently Love’s contribution involves metal claws, and the tee will be sold to benefit an as-yet-unspecified charity. “It’s been fun getting to work with Yigal,” notes Love, who is also collaborating with Zac Posen on the jewelry for his upcoming show. “I mean, I wear his stuff all the time, and there were so many pieces he showed yesterday that I want in my closet.” Don’t we all.
