Chris Benz: Burger Chic

Fresh from his presentation, Chris Benz was the recipient of many a hug at his friendly post-show fête at Automatic Slims in the West Village on Monday night. Benz’s neighborhood bestie posse, including stylist Jessica Diehl and actress Eva Amurri, filed in to give major congrats to the designer. “We met two years ago at his show and became fast friends, and since we’re neighbors, we go out all the time,” said Amurri. “We call the West Village ‘the Island,’ and we get so lazy during the winter, we won’t go out anywhere off the Island.” Partygoers tucked into the pyramid stack of POP burgers and sipped organic beer. Benz, inspired by the high-low sensibility of the season, was channeling Derelicte himself. “I’m officially homeless tonight,” he said, due to a lease lapse which put him out for just tonight. “I’m either going to couch-surf or go beg for a room at the Standard.” As for the burgers: “They go perfectly with my collection,” he said. “I love the idea of the uptown girl going downtown in her fur for a night of reckless abandon and eating a cheeseburger at the end of the night.”
