Christopher Kane’s Disco, Ahem, Den

Christopher Kane’s Fall ‘09 collection may have been a relatively subdued affair, but the designer’s after-party was another matter altogether. Sponsored by the magazine 10, the soirée was housed at the club Jalouse on Hanover Square, and the crowd was packed in elbow-to-elbow. Crystal dripped from the ceiling over the venue’s bumping dance floor, which lent something of a disco coke den (ahem) vibe to the proceedings. Kane, however, could be found moderating his hedonism in the presence of his mum. “My family loves coming down from Scotland for the show,” he explained. “It’s like a vacation for them. And meanwhile,” he added with a laugh, “I’m sweating away, readying the collection.” As Kane went on to note, there was a bit of extra sweat involved this season. “Well, there was such a short break since the last show that I’d have to say my main inspiration was panic.” More specifically, Kane found himself peering at old black marker drawings he’d done. “That’s where all the black lines in the clothes came from,” noted Kane. “Sort of like bar codes, lots of black lines.” Which are something different altogether than white ones.
