Bridget McCall and Nicholas Van Messner’s line LIFEwithBIRD is all about ease, down to the moniker. “My nickname is Bird,” Aussie native McCall (sister to designer Alice) explained, “and this is about our life together.” McCall and Van Messner, newly engaged, work side by side in their Melbourne atelier, retiring upstairs to their flat at day’s end. The drape-y frocks, rompers, and separates that make up their collection feel as effortless as their work-slash-living setup. A shared interest in graphic design yields eye-catching prints and a more architectural silhouette than Australian labels are typically known for. The designers—who have a sizable following Down Under—hope their
latest collection will expand their presence stateside. In the meantime, the only sign of trouble on the horizon is McCall’s wedding gown. “I bounce all my ideas off Nick first,” she laughed. “I don’t know how I’m going to keep this quiet!”

  3. Thank you Romney for this article, I have to admit I never heard of ‘Bird’or Van Messner but they look like they are very interesting people. You mentioned graphic design and eye-catching prints, that’s just what I had in mind when I saw the pic of that model you showed us. Okay it’s just one pic but I like that kind of artistic pictures. Thanks you again, and Coleen what has Michelle Obama to do with Aussies or this article? Romney didn’t even mentioned her, so cool down and keep it a little decent,thank you. Arriverderci
