Sergio Rossi Does The Wavy

The future is looking seriously squiggly at Sergio Rossi. That’s the only way to describe their new gravity-defying heel, which looks more like a pencil-drawn line than something actually used for support. It’s inventor is Francesco Russo, Sergio Rossi’s new designer, who’s taking on the post fresh from a stint at YSL. “Today people want to make a statement and be spectacular with their shoes, but if you can’t walk in them properly, you just won’t pull it off,” Russo told us at his showroom. These spiral heels are supposed to be comfortable? Unconvinced, we gave them a test walk, and, to our surprise, the results were as promised. Another highlight was a python-skin effect made with leather, which looked exactly like the real thing. “Getting that was a breeze,” Russo revealed. “They are simply laser-cut squares which are then hand-rubbed, until the edges curl—just like you see on real python.”
