Stefano Pilati Could Be Your Valentine

It’s that time of year again, when the house of YSL gears up to pull on its patch-pocketed revolutionary garb and issue its Manifesto to the masses on city corners ’round the globe—Paris, New York, London, Tokyo, Milan, and Hong Kong. It’s the fourth time that Casa Pilati is doing this little promotion—which usually involves a broadsheet advert (this one shot starring Claudia Schiffer and shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin) and a limited-edition logoed tote. One fun piece of news: this season’s handout will have stickers. Also, for Spring 2009, Manifesto Day coincides with Valentine’s—an overlap that’s resulting in another highly coveted little item: a heart-shaped USB key. The official word from YSL is that the USB key encourages the viral exchange of information and generally fits into the promotion’s “democratic foundation.” That’s all well and good, but this techy little trinket has given me an acute (and probably unrevolutionary) case of I-Want-It-itis. But alas, I probably won’t have time on February 14, also the second day of New York fashion week, to be one of those lucky 2,000 passersby. Sigh.

    The official word from YSL is “various locations in the city.” But right now, they’re not telling where. I guess you could wander about Manhattan and look for fashionable mobs.
