Terence Koh Hosts A Pop-Up

After his Friday night presentation, Bland designer Teddy Willoughby extended his fashion week reach with a pop-up shop in Asia Song Society, Terence Koh’s Canal Street gallery. Willoughby, along with Deitch’s Meghan Coleman, curated the contents of the space, which opened this weekend. “It’s like what you’d find on a table from our house,” Willoughby explained of the rotating objects inside one
vitrine: a crumpled Theraflu, black and silver sunglasses, crushed Diet Coke cans. Along with moody T-shirts and custom cigarette packs from former Dior model David Lindwall, the installation also features Patrick Griffin’s vintage button-inspired wall hangings and hand-painted pieces from menswear designer Thomas Engel Hart. Though Willoughby’s own corseted, draped, and riveted all-black wares adorn mannequins throughout the space, he prefers to see the pieces worn by actual women. Hence the film on view in the gallery’s basement, for which Willoughby enlisted a dancer to show off his duds. “We did the film to illustrate the clothes and to see movement,” Willoughby explains of the flick being shown in the gallery’s basement. “We put a camera up and just told her to act crazy.” Bland’s pop-up store is open through February 20 at 45 Canal Street.
