Topshop Briefing: No More “Jiggery Pokery”
February 16, 2009 3:06 pm
At an early-riser press briefing this morning at the Gramercy Park Hotel, Topshop and Topman CEO Sir Philip Green confirmed April 2 as the opening date for the brand’s New York flagship outlet. Green projected a total of 12 and 15 stores to open stateside in the years to come, with sights now set on Miami, L.A., Las Vegas, and Boston. “We’re here for the long-term,” Green said. “We’re not going to open a store and disappear in five minutes.” With almost an apologetic air—so very British—Green talked about the various knots and wrinkles the New York store, located on Broadway and Broome (one-time home to Yellow Rat Bastard), encountered while undergoing renovation. “They’ve flooded us, we’ve had a fire…” he said. But onward and upward. No more, as Green put it, “jiggery pokery.”
