“It’s sacrilege!” exclaimed Victoria Bartlett of the jewelry Josh Hickey created for her Picasso-inspired VPL show out of parts of old books. Bartlett might have been shocked, but she was also mighty
pleased with the necklaces Hickey constructed out of old copies of Molière and clock parts that models wore at her packed show today. “I mostly collect cuckoo clocks, they really make great jewelry,” Hickey said. But why Molière? The author’s l’invalide imaginaire reminded Hickey of Bartlett. “The book is the new bag!” he joked. When he’s not collecting, the Parisian-based designer creates accessories, maintains a blog, and recently set up an event decorating company with fellow jeweler Eileen Shields. Deconstructed French lit for your next centerpiece, anyone?
