I can remember the first time I saw her. Just before the Calvin Klein show, in swanned a fresh faced blonde in a Le Smoking designed by Francisco Costa. Her name was Dree Hemingway, and I was told to expect great things. (I knew the face reminded me of someone, and seeing as she’s Mariel’s daughter and Ernest’s great-granddaughter, I was right.) Signed to Elite+, Hemingway made many wonder if she had bona fide muse potential, or if she would fall into the category of socialite poser. Her plum role in Halston’s Fall ‘09 straight-to-video presentation was proof of the former, and today, when she made her exclusive catwalk debut for Givenchy, all skeptics were convinced of Hemingway’s staying power. The night before she expressed her excitement—and relief—at Jeremy Scott’s after party at Regine’s. “It’s all very thrilling,” she said of finding fashion week glory. “But it’s a bit nerve-racking, too: What if I fall?” (She didn’t.) The biggest perk? When you’re on an exclusive there’s no castings or panicked traffic between shows. “I think I’m the only girl here with free time,” she sighed. “Which is great. I love Paris.”
