Donatella’s In With the Fringe

March 19, 2009  7:23 am

“When Donatella comes to town, you want to do something,” declared Vanity Fair’s Elizabeth Saltzman Walker, by way of explaining the party for 80 she hosted Tuesday night at Tini, an “aperitivo bar” newly opened in Knightsbridge by the Princes’ favorite party throwers, Piers Adam, Nick House, and Guy Pelly. The cocktails for the night were the Donatella Delight (non-alcoholic) and the Fringetini (anything but). That’s because the party also celebrated Versace’s mentoring role in Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden, now in its fifth year and responsible for promoting new talent like Erdem Moralioglu, who arrived at Tini brimming with news of his best sales season yet. That was music to the ears of Colin McDowell, the Fringe’s ringmaster. Party faithful included Roland Mouret, Jonathan Saunders, Patrick Cox, Claudia Schiffer, and the Portmans—Natalia and Justin were headed home to the kids after a board meeting of her Naked Heart Foundation. Twenty-three playgrounds created in 23 Russian cities—that meant negotiations with 23 local authorities. They deserved a night in. Meanwhile, Donatella, a vision in white, shimmered off to the Dorchester to host a dinner at the Grill Room.
