Jil Goes Fast

March 17, 2009  12:19 pm

Last night, news broke that Jil Sander is assuming a design consultancy role at Uniqlo, the mega Japanese retailer with the Pantone separates. We are, of course, hugely excited for Sander’s reign, but the German designer has never seemed like a collaborative type of gal. (She left her eponymous label due to conflict with her label’s owner, Patrizio Bertelli. Twice.) Would it be cynical of us to presume that Sander’s decision to join the brand is a case of following the money? Does this mark a new recession trend? Could Olivier Theyskens’ next gig be at Zara? (Can’t you just see the gowns?) What do you think, Style Filers? Let us know.
