Versace and Kane’s Hard Edit
Donatella Versace relaunched her little sister label, Versus, today, debuting a small capsule collection of accessories made in collaboration with Christopher Kane, her onetime accessories consultant at Versace. Clothes will follow in July. “It’s a younger version of Versace, but with the same rock and roll spirit. Who better than Christopher to revive it?” she said. “He made so many sketches and they were all so good, we had a hard time editing.” Hard is the definitely the operative word. When the black and silver leather shoes and bags and chain necklaces aren’t studded with enormous faceted crystals, they’re adorned with big gold clips. “The Versus girl is very different than our girl,” said Kane. Well, not entirely, a Chelsea boot nods in the direction of the London designer’s fall collection, which included men’s tailoring for the first time, along with flat oxford shoes. “I prefer the gladiator sandal,” admitted Donatella, pointing to a strappy super-high stiletto. Why aren’t we surprised?
