Barneys Brings Recycling, Bake Sales To 10022

April 17, 2009  12:06 pm

It’s not often that the shiny Gossip Girl world of the Upper East Side welcomes old, ragged T-shirts, recycling, and bake sales, but that’s exactly what’s happening tomorrow at Barneys on Madison. In exchange for your holey Flaming Lips tee from 1996, you’ll get 20 percent off the organic wares from Loomstate and Loomstate for Barneys Green. (The old tees will be reworked into new Loomstate T-shirts.) That means an easy little belted shirtdress for $158 or an artfully slouchy cardi for $142. Not bad. If you’re there between 2 and 4 p.m., there will be Loomstate artists to hand-paint your new T-shirts. And once the sustainable shopping’s done, you can escalate one floor up to Fred’s for an organic bake sale. Will they have those cupcakes baked into an ice cream cone that you loved in the fourth grade? Doubtful, but as a fan of Fred’s, I’m going to bet that the treats are still delicious. And attention, West Coast Style Filers, the whole thing happens again next Saturday, April 25, in Beverly Hills.
