Love At First Sight: Osklen “Prata” Espadrille

What: Espadrille with some springtime frill
Why: Something’s been dampening my spring fever, and it’s not just the weather. Typically, when April rolls around, I consecrate the new season with a pedicure and a sandal shopping spree, but this year I can’t seem to muster any enthusiasm for the project. I think I have sandal burnout. I think, further, that last summer’s gladiator trend is to blame. No doubt I’ll have made my peace with all things open-toed by the time the first big heat wave comes to town, but in the meantime, it’s Osklen’s Prata espadrille that is putting the spring into my step. One of several raffia-soled styles in the Brazil-based brand’s spring footwear collection, the pretty, beribboned Prata strikes me as something like a Giambattista Valli platform on vacation in St. Bart’s. I foresee wearing them with cutoffs and a baggy tank, to sweeten the look up. Who needs sandals?
