Sabyasachi’s Madonna Moment

April 3, 2009  12:17 pm

The eighties, in all their body-con, big-shouldered splendor, were the biggest trend to emerge from the Fall shows. At Lakmé fashion week, Sabyasachi, one of India’s best-known designers, who shows in New York during the Spring collections, was on to a related scent. Taking an unexpected approach to references, he sent out an eye-popping mash-up of rustic Indian looks mixed with Like a Virgin-era tulle and netting accents. Call him the Marc Jacobs of the subcontinent.

  1. You know Sameer, which woman will ever can afford this kind of designers dressess or gowns or whatever in India. I’m sorry to say but as long as there are different casts or difference in to where people belong, the poor, the middleclass and the upperclass, he never will make it in his own country. These kind of designs are only affordable for the rich in India, the average people have to work 12 hours a day or more to get some money and as you know they also work for some European fashion houses for a few dollars a day. Fashion is beautiful, but never look backstage, the misery (working) people in India and China meet every day in whatever factory is heartbreaking. And at last I wouldn’t call him the MJ of your (sub)continent. They both have different styles and your Mr. Sabyasachi, is far away from the acceptation in the western world and please don’t compare him with any western designer, that would be a humilation for him. As it is for any designer, they are all unique with their own style and designs. So for now a nice weekend and arriverderci
