The Michelle Watch: Score Another One For Indie Designers

April 28, 2009  5:23 pm

“Michelle Obama is our very own fashion stimulus package,” Style.com’s Candy Pratts Price says in our freshly posted Fall 2009 Accessory Report. And how. The First Lady continued her support of indie designers today, wearing French-born, Brooklyn-based Sophie Théallet’s all-American beribboned shirtdress to the unveiling of a sculpture honoring abolitionist and women’s rights crusader Sojourner Truth. The designer discovered her boon by accident when she took a break from sewing and tuned into the news. “It was the best gift—it blew my mind!” Théallet said this afternoon. “I am really proud—it’s the first word that comes to me. I love the way she is, the way she talks…and she looks happy in that dress.”

  3. Laird she (MO) comes everytime with another designer or dress etc. That makes her so special as a first lady. Not the dresses worn by Mrs. Bush and even Hilary Clinton, they where all predictable. This is a new approached to fashion in the White House, and I only can say I adore it. As almost always Candy has right. This is very refreshing, okay I don’t like all what she wears (MO I mean) but it’s a push-up in the right direction, she also shows that African-American woman can dress theirself. She’s a real sweetheart of mine, you Americans should be proud on her. I expect more from her in the future. Arriverderci

  4. Because of her height, First Lady Obama looks great in most styles!
Her choices match her personality–warm and approachable.
