Buon Compleanno A Roma

As a special treat for the American VIPs attending Bulgari’s 125th anniversary soirée tonight (more on the gala and 500-piece exhibition tomorrow), Nicola Bulgari hosted an intimate welcoming dinner in an unexpected location yesterday evening: his underground garage! Chloë Sevigny, Jessica Alba, and Ginnifer Goodwin mingled with Bettina Zilkha, Debbie Bancroft, and CNN’s Alina Cho while sipping Bellinis surrounded by Detroit’s finest Cadillacs, Pontiacs, and Fords, and we didn’t know what was getting us more buzzed: the fine Champagne or the oil in the air. Over a buffet of carbs gone wild, Sevigny said, “Let’s cut to the chase. What are you wearing tomorrow night?” As everyone pontificated on their gala attire, the lights suddenly dimmed and the Fabio Mariani quintet switched from jazz to “Happy Birthday.” Out came a massive chocolate cake to celebrate my personal milestone. As I blew out my candle I joked, “I’ll always be younger than Bulgari.”
