Costume Institute Red Carpet Update
After all the anticipation, the countless reports of who’d be wearing what, and which designers would be squiring which celebrities, the Costume Institute ball is over. We had many favorites. Kate Bosworth’s Veronica Lake locks, fire-engine-red lips, and lacy Stella McCartney were a bright spot; as were Jessica Stam’s coppery Rodarte (it matched her hair) and Daria Werbowy’s smoking-hot sequined smoking dress. On the vintage tip, we liked Marisa Tomei’s understated Adrian, Natalia Vodianova’s silk Fortuny, and Stella Tennant’s Helmut Lang, which she borrowed from the designer’s personal archive. Trendwise, there was short, short, and long at the same time, boy-for-girl suitings, and electric brights with Donatella Versace leading the charge in turquoise.
