Have Weekend Bag, Will Travel

May 20, 2009  10:52 am

Ah, summer. There’s nothing like sneaking away for a weekend in the country, planting yourself in some shady spot in the backyard, and cracking open your laptop to get caught up on work. Such is the modern way, like it or not, and Nicole Kunz has taken its measure. The Nicholas K designer is launching a new range of bags for Fall ‘09, among which is the Max weekender, a duffel created with the laptop toter in mind. “The inside is separated into three compartments,” she explains, “and it has foam stitched into the side to protect your computer, and there are pockets for cords, and so on.” Available this summer at Kitson in Los Angeles, the Max bag samples have been getting a test run by Kunz and her brother and partner Chris, and she attests to the fact that its vintage-washed sheet leather stands up to being thrown around. “I like that you can beat it up,” she notes. “It’s just a really easy bag to use.” Equally durable—if a little less utilitarian—is the tasseled clutch Kunz says is her favorite of the bags in the new range. “It’s more dressy,” she acknowledges, “but still pretty hardy.” And even if it won’t fit your laptop, there’s plenty of room for a BlackBerry.
