Love Is All Around At Mulberry

May 15, 2009  3:27 pm

Walking into the Mulberry shop on Madison Avenue last night, you could be forgiven for wondering how Valentine’s Day had come around so soon. The store was decked out in pink and red balloons, “Baby Love” was playing over the loudspeakers, and everywhere you looked, there were people kissing. In photographs, anyway: Mulberry was celebrating the release of Chris Craymer’s Romance, a book of photographs of couples in love that the brand has published itself in a limited edition and is selling in its stores. Shots from Craymer’s series were up for silent auction and hanging on the wall (where they’ll remain until July 7); Mulberry designer Emma Hill, for her part, was having a hard time deciding which picture she wanted to bid on. “There are so many good ones,” she complained. “All these beautiful moments, very unselfconscious, very English…” The collaboration between Craymer and Mulberry was, she went on to note, “a marriage made in heaven.” Recent Williamsburg transplant Alexa Chung was a little less courtly in her description. “I kind of love the porn hanging on the wall,” she joked. True romance, indeed.
