Models, Actors Give It Up For Free Arts NYC

May 12, 2009  10:41 am

“Fashion people don’t buy art.” No sooner had a high-profile stylist (who requested anonymity) thrown that out there at last night’s Free Arts NYC auction, which was sponsored by Calvin Klein Collection and co-hosted by Kevin Bacon and Michelle Monaghan, than Karolina Kurkova set out to prove her wrong. After being outbid on a Christopher Wool lot she’d offered $17,000 for, the Czech model scored her second choice for $5,000. The proceeds will go to charity, and Kurkova’s new prize will likely end up somewhere in the vicinity of her currently most cherished objet d’art. “I have a Buddha head from China from, like, the thirteenth century. I kiss it on the forehead. He’s so cute!”
